Happy Thanksgiving

We are grateful for all our loyal customers, facebook followers, twitter followers and all the rest of our fans out there. We know that if it wasn't for your support Diviine Modestee would not be where it is today. Thank you for your loyalty, for your patronage and for your support. We love you!

Black Friday

Back in the day, when I worked at the local mall I swore to myself that I would never again set foot in a mall on Black Friday. And I haven't. Black Friday is the most nightmare-ish day ever invented, followed by Valentine's Day, in my opinion. I will never forget several years ago when my Mother-in-Law boasted that she stood in line at Fred Meyer for two hours in the freezing cold, finally elbowed her way in to the store, stood in a very long register line for another hour all for a discount on SOCKS! I can tell you now that there is no discount on socks...doesn't matter what store, what brand....that would make that worth it to me.

Now cyber-shopping...THAT is something I could do any time, any day. I don't even need a special day like Cyber Monday for it. But for those of you who want to cyber-shop this weekend Diviine Modestee has a good BlackFriday/Cyber Monday sale going on: Select dresses (including new arrivals!) are anywhere from 20-40% off, swimwear is 20% off AND we are also offering FREE shipping on dress orders of $100+.

No socks on sale. Sorry.

Customer Comment of the Day

Customer comment: "I love your camisoles! They are the perfect height in front, higher than any other cami I've tried." http://bit.ly/7g0tN4

On sale this week

I posted a while back about one of our new dresses, the Taylor which I LOVE, but I haven't yet announced that we also have 4 other new dresses in for Fall: Kelsey, MaKennzie (in two colors), Taylor and Brecken (also in two colors).

These dresses are 20% off in our store and also online at Diviine Modestee. These are great dresses, I really can't say enough about them. As the resident sizing model for Large, I am so impressed with all these designs. All four of them make me look a size smaller and who doesn't want that? Not ashamed to say that I do! Each one hits below the knee and has a modest neckline.

Pumpkin Pancakes

One of the things I love most about Fall is Pumpkins. I love Pumpkin pie, pumpkin smoothies from Jamba Juice...basically anything pumpkin. Here's a recipe that I thought I'd share for fellow pumpkin lovers...not that we are turning this into a recipe blog, cuz we're not, we are still Diviine Modestee selling modern modest fashion.

Bon Appetit!

Pumpkin Pancakes
2 eggs
1-1/4 Cups buttermilk
4 Tablespoons butter, melted
3 Tablespoons canned pumpkin
1/4 Cup granulated sugar
1/4 Teaspoon salt
1-1/4 Cups all-purpose flour
1/2 Teaspoon baking powder
1/2 Teaspoon baking soda
1/4 Teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 Teaspoon allspice
.
Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Spray a light even layer of oil cooking spray.
With an electric mixer combine eggs, buttermilk, butter, pumpkin, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
Combine remaining ingredients in a small bowl. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and blend with mixer until smooth.
Pour the batter in 1/4 cup portions into the hot pan.
When the batter stops bubbling and edges begin to harden, flip the pancakes. They should be dark brown. This will take from 1 to 2 minutes.
Flip the pancakes and cook about the same amount of time, until dark brown.
Servings: 4

I think these would be yummy with Buttermilk syrup and I have a recipe for that if anyone wants it.

If you have a favorite pumpkin recipe that you'd like to share, please add it in your comments!

Customer Comment of the Day

Beth says: "Thank you for offering such lovely modest options for us women who are not shaped like models". I say AMEN to that! I had the good fortune of wearing one of our sample dresses on Sunday and all I could say was "Wow!" This dress on the left, the Taylor (coming this week!) took 10 lbs off my waistline. I didn't look like the model in the photo, but dang-it...I looked good!

Part 3 Fall Trends Based on your Style

So far we've talked a little about the Romantic Look and the Modern Retro look so today it's the Bohemian Look. Boho isn't the hole-y, half-grunge look made famous by Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. Ditch anything you've ever thought about Olsen-fashion (or NON-fashion) and instead think Sienna Miller. People Magazine attribute the modern Boho look with Sienna:
"She was instrumental in popularizing the boho look that we are seeing now--the cowboy boots with the peasant skirt, the low-slung belt over a tunic, the newsboy cap mixed with a pirate shirt.
Copying Sienna's look is simple and can be incorporated into your own style. First hair and makeup is simple. Second, think long, flowing, ruffled layers. Prairie skirts and cowboy boots. Denim and ruffled tops. I like to wear the skirt on the left with brown tights/leggings and cowboy boots, a brown layering shirt and another shirt/sweater on top. However, no Boho-Chic style is complete without with proper accessories. To finish off your Boho look add a few beaded necklaces or a skinny scarf and you are off and running! And don't forget the big sunglasses...the bigger the better!
New Diviine Deal: Carmen in Brown/Cream for only $32.95. What a deal! http://ping.fm/2UKQq

It's Diviine Deal Monday Again!

If you missed out on our Diviine Deal last week for the Sadie Dress don't fret! This week's Diviine Deal is even better! Regularly $62, we are offering the Brown/Cream Carmen wrap dress for only $32.95. To quote Chantelle, the owner of Diviine Modestee: "This dress will not be this low ever again!"
If you would like to purchase this dress at this one-time-only price, go to Diviine Modestee and use coupon code: diviinedealcarmen. Good until midnight November 1.

We're planning on hopping on the GiveAway Bandwagon. Follow us at http://ping.fm/M0hZw BEFORE the GiveAway for double the chance of winning!

Part 2 Fall Trends Based on Your Style

Modern Retro. Definitely sounds like an oxymoron, but really it's not. No one wants to completely resurrect the fashion failures of the past. Think crimped hair, linebacker shoulder pads, bras that come to a sharp point. Uhn-uh! What we want to see this season are graphic black and white prints, flat scrunched boots and A-line dresses. These styles are updated, tweaked to be revived into the modern look that fits todays fashions. Notice how the scrunch boots in the photo do not resemble the pirate-esque scrunch boot of the past? A perfect example of Modern Retro. These boots look great with leggings, and a long tunic or shorter dress.

For a dressier look you could try Diviine Modestee's MaKenna dress. With its color-block styling and its A-line silhouette this dress has the perfect taste of retro. Pair it with a great pair of heels and a chunky beaded necklace and you are perfectly read for work or play! One little fashion hint, however: please don't wear the scrunch boots with the dress, although if you must, choose the cream boots. :)
Next up...Bohemian style.

Fall Trends based on your Style

Each time the seasons change a new wave of trends hit the fashion scene and this fall is no exception. There are so many cute new items out there in the marketplace, how do you decide what trends to try and which to forgo? The answer is to find or select your fashion style and then pick the trendy items that coordinate with that style. Some of the fashion styles we see are:
  • The Romantic Look
  • Mod Retro
  • Bohemian Style
  • Classy Black
  • Military Chic
Many prefer to stick with one style that they are comfortable with, others celebrate a different style for each outfit. How you choose to express your style/s is of course, entirely up to you. But regardless of your style preferences we've outlined a few trendy pieces that you can add to your wardrobe to either create a style or update the one you already have.

The Romantic Look
The Romantic Look is characterized by ruffles, poet sleeves, 3/4 length Dolman sleeves and high collars. Delicately printed dresses and skirts, especially floral prints are hot items for the romantic look. A jacket like this cute one from Tabeez totally fits the bill...it has both ruffles AND beautiful sleeves. What could be better? You could also pick the Ruffle Blouse by Diviine Modestee (shown above). With its ruffled high collar and satin bowtie sleeves this blouse is the epitomy of the Romantic Look. It can be paired with a skirt (I posted previously about the lady I sat behind who wore this blouse with a velvet grey skirt and it was GORGEOUS!) and even jeans. Add a great silver chain necklace with an assortment of soldered silver charms and you are set.

Next post....Mod Retro. Stay tuned!
Photo shoot for new dresses is done. Perfect sunny weather over the weekend. Dresses should be here in a week! More info on them to come.

Wardrobe Basics for Fall-

Fall is definitely in the air and with it comes the new trends and styles for the season. One of the best ways to showcase a trendy addition to your wardrobe is to pair that trend piece with a few simple basics that every wardrobe should have. Make these basics the best quality you can afford since you may be wearing them often.

1. Denim jeans, preferably skinny or straight leg
2. Pencil skirt-Black or a neutral tan
3. Black Leggings
4. Skimmer or ballet flats
5. Cardigan-This season's trend is the 3/4 length sleeve
6. Long layering tanks and tees (white, black, cream and/or grey)
7. Camisoles-Again start with the basic colors listed above.
8. A great pair of boots

Personally my favorite discovery this fall is the legging. What a great way to make what would normally be a too-short dress into a trendy, modest, hip look! The legging used to be strictly for Hollywood Elite or teenagers, but not so any longer. And not only does the legging make a dress modest, but it covers up that extra thigh flab (not that I would know. *sshhhhh.....*)
Found this really cute site: http://ping.fm/JdMIb Suddenly Darling is a website with teen clothing tips. Let me know what you think!

Happy Valentine's Day from the Queen

My daughter, bless her heart, made me a chocolate candy heart necklace for Valentin's Day made from chocolate, saran wrap and ribbons. As she was bestowing me with this precious gift she discovered that it was too small. Either she made the necklace too small or my head is overly large, but being the chipper 9 year old that she usually is she pronounced me Queen of Valentines as she placed this lovely necklace on my head.
valentine's day crown

While I am proud to wear it, the temptation of smelling chocolate all day has proven to be a bigger temptation that I am up for currently...the necklace that was actually a crown is alas, now a bracelet. YUM.

A Red, Red Rose

A Red, Red Rose
by Robert Burns

O my luve's like a red, red rose.
That's newly sprung in June;
O my luve's like a melodie
That's sweetly play'd in tune.

Valentine's Day is almost upon us and for those who don't boycott the day (like my sister, Alena who works at a flower shop so can you blame her??) it is the season of love and romance. According to some sources Valentine's Day is the number one day out of the entire year to receive a marriage proposal. And what should the stylish and modest modern woman wear on the day she may become engaged? Why a gorgeous red dress of course!

Audrey

With this dress and a pair of killer pumps what man could resist proposing to his lady love?

As for my sister, the boycotter of all things Valentine-y? She and other Valentine's haters can wear this lovely dress below until the mourning period is over at 12 Midnight February 14 and she'll still look gorgeous and classy.

Photobucket

What am I wearing? Well, since Valentine's Day is on a Saturday and my husband is tied up continually with meetings, etc this time of year I will be wearing sweats, I'm sure. Whatever you wear, enjoy yourself and hoard that chocolate!

Sharing the Love

Nothing is more exciting to me than to be cruising around the internet and find my own blog listed on another's blogroll. I have noticed lately that this blog has been receiving hits from one particular site rather frequently. AmandaBeth Online is one of the few blogs out there in the blogosphere that helps celebrate modesty and pass along style tips for dressing modestly and classy. I may be wrong, but I think this blog has a new look and I'm loving it! Thanks Amanda!

Praying for Parker, support for Parker

My husband and I had the opportunity and pleasure yesterday of meeting a very courageous young man and a family who's loyalty is astounding.  We were invited over to meet this little guy because of some legislation that was incorrectly attributed to my husband. This little boy:
Parker

... was born six weeks early with chronic lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, a tethered spinal cord, an imperforate anus, and an extra chromosome. He's undergone many surgeries, including critical intestinal surgery, a tracheotomy, g-tube placement and just this month, surgery to correct a life threatening bowel adhesion. He’s spent more time in the hospital than out of it. We were able to discuss Parker's needs, where support is failing and what can possibly be done to direct the government in a direction that will keep providing and supporting those with special needs.

But speaking of support, I was so touched by the way that this family has completely rallied around Parker in all ways: Grandpa willing to sell everything he has literally to support and sustain Parker's life. Loving sisters and brother who not only show affection, which would be expected, but know how to feed Parker through his tube, handle his oxygen apparatus (I'm trying to use big words here to cover up the fact that I don't know the medical terms), hold him and snuggle him, all while being very careful not to injure or cause pain from his recent surgery sites. I was very touched. And again, though you would thoroughly expect siblings and parents to love any child, brother or sister, their dedication to Parker's well-being was awesome and inspiring. An incredible family...parents, grandparents and children.

The medication, supplies, and equipment to assist Parker have cost a literal fortune for this health-insured family. What isn't realized by many, is that even though you have adequate or even superb health insurance, should a catastrophe occur such as a permanently disabling accident (as in the case of my brother-in-law) or a child born with severe health issues, insurance coverage max's out quickly. Surgeries and hospital stays add up to the multiple thousands of dollars.

"So often we read about children like Parker and think we wish we could help.  But this time we can help in a simple way."  says Mom, Tammy. If you have kids who enjoy playing games online, direct them here:
Games: Playing for Parker
Advertising revenue that is earned while playing will go directly to Parker for his ongoing care. Every little bit helps! You can also follow Parker's story at PrayingforParker.

Now...since this is a blog for Diviine ModesTee, I must add that I wore this skirt:

sequin skirt
...with a brown empire waist top, cream Diviine ModesTee Camisole underneath, brown tights and kickin' cowboy boots that I got for a steal at Ross because I had just got off work. I don't normally dress "up" to visit adorable little boys (I mean LOOK at those eyes!), but this brave boy certainly deserved the honor.
